Jeff Patterson, Chief Executive Officer

Jeff joined Nacogdoches Medical Center as Chief Executive Officer in December 2015 from Desert Regional Medical Center in Palm Springs, California, where he served as Chief Operating Officer (COO). Prior experience includes being chief business development officer for the Southern Region and COO and associate administrator of Lake Pointe Medical Center in Rowlett, Texas. Jeff holds a master's degree in healthcare administration from Trinity University in San Antonio, Texas and a bachelor's degree in economics from Texas A&M University in College Station, Texas.

Frank Malek, Chief Financial Officer

Frank was appointed Chief Financial Officer of Nacogdoches Medical Center in September 2013. His previous experience includes over 10 years of financial management experience with Community Health Systems in positions of increasing responsibility, with the most current being  Chief Financial Officer for Northwest Medical Center in Bentonville, Arkansas, since 2010.  Frank earned his bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from the University of Houston and his MBA from Texas A&M University-Commerce. He is a CPA, licensed in New Mexico. 

Mario B. Estrella, Chief Nursing Officer

Mario was appointed Interim CNO in August 2012 and assumed the permanent position on October 1, 2012. He is responsible for Pharmacy, Nursing, Case Management and Quality. He started his career with Nacogdoches Medical Center in 1975 as a staff nurse. He was promoted to various nursing leadership positions before becoming the VP of Patient Care Services, responsible for Nursing and other ancillary departments. He stayed with Nacogdoches Medical Center for 28 years before pursuing a career opportunity as VP of Patient Services with Memorial Health System of East Texas in 2003. He earned his bachelor’s degree in Nursing from University of Pangasinan, Philippines, and master’s degree in Healthcare Administration from Warren National University. 

Teresa Farrell, Chief Human Resources Officer

Teresa began her career at Nacogdoches Medical Center in 1987 as Staff Coordinator. In May 2000, she was promoted to Director of Human Resources and now serves as the Chief Human Resources Officer and Director of Volunteers. She graduated from Stephen F. Austin University in Nacogdoches, Texas, with a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration. Her professional affiliations include SHRM and Pineywoods HR Association.  

Philip Koovakada, Chief Operating Officer

Philip joined the team at Nacogdoches Medical Center as Chief Operating Officer in April 2016. Prior to his appointment, he was Director of Cardiovascular Services at Desert Regional Medical Center located in Palm Springs, California. Philip is a member of the American College of Healthcare Executives and earned both a Master of Science in Nursing and a Master of Science in Health Care Administration from California State University. He received his Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of St. Francis in Joliet, Illinois.
