The Wound Care Center at Nacogdoches Medical Center has been recognized for its outstanding patient care and helping local residents heal their chronic wounds.

Healogics®, the nation’s largest provider of advanced wound care services, recognized NMC’s Wound Care Center with three awards: Center of Distinction-Patient Satisfaction, the Robert A. Warriner, M.D., Clinical Excellence Award, and the organization’s most prestigious award recognizing the top wound care centers that achieve clinical and operational excellence – the President’s Circle Award.

To earn the Center of Distinction award, NMC’s Wound Care Center achieved outstanding clinical outcomes for twelve consecutive months, including a patient satisfaction rate higher than 92 percent. The Wound Care Center at NMC earned the Robert A. Warriner III, M.D., Clinical Excellence Award by scoring in the top 10 percent of eligible wound care centers on Healogics’ clinical excellence measure. Healogics’ President’s Circle Award is reserved for only the top wound care centers that achieve both clinical and operational excellence.

This recognition is a testament to the exceptional care and dedication demonstrated by the Wound Center’s physicians, leaders, and clinicians, said Jeff Patterson, Nacogdoches Medical Center CEO.

“These awards are tangible evidence of the intense sprit of collaboration and teamwork we have worked hard to build at Nacogdoches Medical Center over the past 50 years,” he said. “By working together, we are able to provide the highest quality care for our community, leading to better clinical outcomes and improved quality of life for our patients.”

Advanced wound care plays a critical role in caring for patients throughout the region. There are already millions of people throughout the United States living with chronic wounds. Those numbers are rising, fueled by an aging population and increasing rates of diseases and conditions such as diabetes, obesity and the late effects of radiation therapy. If left untreated, chronic wounds can lead to diminished quality of life and possibly amputation of the affected limb. Even more alarmingly, 50 percent of people die within five years of amputation.

Dr. Marian Kathleen Querry, DO, Medical Director for the Nacogdoches Medical Center Wound Care Center, said the awards signify the high-quality care patients have come to expect from the NMC Wound Care Center since it opened in 2012.

“We have a great team here,” she said. “We have a physician-driven program, and our physicians are here full-time and have strong backgrounds in general surgery and wound care, which allows for a very good understanding of wounds and why they do not heal. To support them, we have a great group of nurses that are very knowledgeable and compassionate and dedicated to patient care.”

A patient’s individualized treatment plan may include specialized wound dressings, debridement, compression therapy, hyperbaric oxygen therapy, advanced cellular products and topical growth factors, edema management and/or non-invasive vascular assessment.
