Primary Stroke Center
According to the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association, stroke is the No. 5 cause of death and a leading cause of adult disability in the United States. On average, someone in the U.S. suffers a stroke every 40 seconds and nearly 795,000 people suffer a new or recurrent stroke each year. As the only hospital in Nacogdoches certified as a Primary Stroke Center by The Joint Commission, we know Time=Brain. Our Stroke team has met specific quality measures essential to reduce the time between the patient’s arrival at the hospital and treatment with the clot-buster tissue plasminogen activator, or tPA, the only drug approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration to treat ischemic stroke.
Joint Commission Certified Chest Pain Center
As the only Chest Pain center certified by The Joint Commission, the chest pain team at NMC has one primary goal: to ensure that patients get the life-saving treatment they need during the early stages of a heart attack. Their goal is to reduce the time from the patient's arrival at the emergency department to treatment - to avoid as much heart damage as possible.
Joint Commission Certified Total Joint Program
NMC Health earned a Gold Seal of Approval® for its Hip and Knee Joint Replacement Program in and was re-certified in March 2021 by demonstrating compliance with The Joint Commission’s national standards for health care quality and safety. The certification recognizes the organization’s continuous dedication to elevate the quality, consistency and safety of their services and patient care.
Level IV Trauma Center Designation from the Department of State Health Services
Obtaining Level IV Trauma Center designation means that NMC has taken the appropriate measures to ensure they are staffed by physicians and health care professionals with advanced trauma training that can provide resuscitation and stabilization for patients who have experienced injuries resulting from major and severe trauma.
Level II Special Care Nursery Designation from the Department of State Health Services
Every parent hopes their baby is born healthy, but when complications arise, experience and timing are critical; that’s why we are here, to provide your baby a higher level of care when it’s needed. Since NMC’s NICU opened in May
of 2016, board certified neonatologists have been available 24 hours per day, 7 days a week to provide the expertise and compassionate care required to treat premature and critically-ill newborns. Equipped with advanced technology and an integrated
developmental care approach, the 8-bed Level II NICU was the first of its kind to open in Nacogdoches.
American College of Radiology (ACR) Imaging Accreditation
The Laird Imaging Center at Nacogdoches Medical Center is accredited by the American College of Radiology for nuclear medicine, computed tomography, MRI, mammography and ultrasound. This accreditation helps us to ensure high-quality imaging, staff and equipment — giving you precise imaging to help your doctor reach an accurate diagnosis.
CMS 4-Star Rating
The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) rates hospitals using the Star Rating Program, a system that measures the experiences Medicare beneficiaries have with their health care. Nacogdoches is proud to be a 4-Star CMS Facility for the second consecutive year in 2021.
Our mission is to serve, heal and educate with concern for the whole patient, understanding of the economic environment and a relentless commitment to quality.
Our vision is to be the healthcare provider of first choice in our service areas based on quality, value and range of services.
In 1975, 15 local physicians who shared a passion for providing high quality care for their patients and wanted to make a difference in the way medicine was being practiced in Nacogdoches, founded our hospital.
From the beginning, we placed an emphasis on the people who worked tirelessly providing care to our community in times of sorrow and pain as well as in times of hope and joy. We recognize our employees, physicians and partners that make Nacogdoches Medical Center the hospital of choice in our community.
Since the beginning, NMC has always been focused on the future, frequently undergoing expansions and renovations to remain relevant and ensure we continued to offer East Texas the quality care and range of services they deserve.
In the 80’s we saw the addition of our Women’s Center, and full service Imaging Department. The 90’s brought the creation of our Same Day Surgery department, the Loma Laird Cancer Center, and our Occupational Health Clinic. In the new millennium our trajectory of growth never slowed, as we added the Nacogdoches Surgery Center, our Free Standing Diagnostic Imaging Center, The Wound Care Center and in 2013, both the Breast Health and Infusion Centers.
Late in 2014, after almost a full year of construction, we proudly opened the doors to our most recent addition: the NMC-Center Emergency and Diagnostic Imaging Facility. This off campus facility is a $7.8 million dollar investment in Shelby County, providing state of the art, full service emergency room care around the clock for the people of Deep East Texas. Also at that location, we offer outpatient diagnostics and lab services to conveniently serve the needs of all East Texans.
Nacogdoches Medical Center is honored to work with an extensive team of more than 150 physicians, providing access to some of the area’s most highly qualified and compassionate medical experts. We are also proud of our employees, who continue to be critical to our success.
NMC’s diverse and highly skilled work force of 450 employees embraces a common goal: to provide the community with the highest quality of healthcare possible. The compassionate men and women of Nacogdoches Medical Center dedicate their lives to providing the very best care possible to our family members, our friends and our neighbors.
We remain proud of what our staff and physicians have accomplished. We are proud of our history and distinguished accomplishments and will continue to deliver the unmatched service, high quality and compassionate care we have become known for. We look forward to continued growth and will strive to remain the hospital of choice for East Texas residents.
